Howdy, Mavericks! I am so excited to join the Mathews Elementary community as your assistant principal!
My Plano ISD journey began as a student. I attended Wells Elementary, Schimelpfenig Middle School, Jasper High School, and graduated from Plano Senior High School. Education has always been a part of my family as well—my mom served as a substitute school secretary at Plano West Senior High School from 2000 to 2020.
After earning my undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, I obtained my teaching certification and joined Otto Middle School for its inaugural year in 2010 as a special education teacher. During my time at Otto, I served as a Strategist, Developmental (Life Skills) teacher, BASE/FOCUS teacher, and team leader. In 2018, I transitioned to Murphy Middle School, where I worked as the special education department chair and an ACHIEVE teacher. While at Murphy, I earned my master’s degree from Western Governors University and obtained my principal certification. In July 2022, I joined the Dooley Elementary family as an assistant principal and spent three wonderful years there before coming to Mathews.
I hope my growth mindset, positivity, professional experience, and dedication to students help build upon the strong culture already in place at Mathews.
Outside of school, my wife and I are proud parents of six “fur babies”—PB, a Black Lab/German Shepherd mix, and five Shiba Inus: Koji, Kiko, Kuma, Yuki, and Mika. I also enjoy cooking, watching Dallas Mavericks basketball, taking road trips, and gardening.

Hello Mavs!
My name is Whitney Truong, and I’m thrilled to be the new assistant principal at Mathews!
I knew from a young age I wanted to be a teacher and have always loved going to school, so much that I decided never to leave! I graduated from TCU with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, I was hired at Beverly Elementary and spent the past 15 years there teaching, supporting, and serving the Beverly community. My first 10 years were in the classroom. I have experience teaching both first and fourth grades. For the past 5 years, I have been in the Instructional Specialist/Student Support Liaison role. I am a lifelong learner and have earned two master's degrees since I began teaching. The first was an M.Ed. in Curriuclum and Instruction from the University of Cincinnati, and my most recent degree was an M.Ed. in Administration from Lamar University.
I believe in a collaborative approach to planning and putting support in place for all students to be successful. My personal motto is “Every name. Every need. Every day.” Forming relationships with students, understanding their unique needs, and providing support to ensure all students succeed every day is at the heart of my passion for being an educator.
I am excited for this new adventure and look forward to supporting the Mathews' students, staff, and families!
